The UK exclusive MD10 FIA 8862-2009 from Motordrive – Order Book now open
Motordrive has become the first British Manufacturer to gain approval for an FIA 8862-2009 advanced competition seat for race and rally.
The FIA 8862-2009 standard is the very highest seat safety standard and only a relatively small number of seats are approved at this level. The launch of the MD10 places Motordrive well and truly on the world stage.
Not only does this development open the way to working with every level of motorsport, Motordrive has jumped ahead of the competition by offering an ultra-light model. With a homologation weight of well under 9kg, the MD10 is one of the very lightest in its class.
The MD10 has involved over 18 months of in-house engineering and development work along with safety testing at Newton TRL in Milan to achieve the ultimate in design, weight and critically safety.
The 8862-2009 standard requires quasi-static testing, meaning that the seat is fixed and the loads are applied by hydraulic rams to the head, shoulder and pelvis areas of the seat simultaneously. The testing simulates an impact of approximately 70G and includes a final crush test to ensure that the seat can transfer pressure without failing and harming the competitor (especially important in rallying where 2 seats sit side by side and therefore are positioned nearer to the outside of the car).
detailed modelling of energy transfers in composite materials across different lay-ups and design. Motordrive were informed by Newton that motorsport manufacturers have million Euro budgets on FIA 8862-2009 seat projects and no 8862 seat has ever passed test first time. We believe that the Motordrive team should be justifiably proud of standing alongside the big budget boys to deliver an ultra-lightweight advanced motorsport seat to challenge the rest.
