Are your seats in date?
Now is a good time to check your seat dates for the 2018 season.
Seats manufactured in 2012 and 2013 should have a hologram and a white label showing the year and month of manufacture. These seats have a life of 5 years by month and year and so if manufactured in November 2012 they will expire in November 2017.
Seats manufactured from 1st January 2014 onwards will have a ‘Not Valid After’ date on the white label as shown here:
This date will be a year and the seat will be valid until 31 December in that year. From 2014 the life of seats is 5 years from the end of the year of manufacture. For example, seats issued at any time in 2017 are in date until the end of 2022.
The exception to this rule is a Motordrive seat which has had its life extended. Motordrive is the only manufacturer to offer a re-certification service so that a seat can be re-dated for up to 2 years. Seats must be returned to Motordrive at the end of their original 5 year life and pass the re-certification inspection. If seats pass, they will be issued with a new ‘Not Valid After’ date.
If you buy new seats early in the calendar year you can get up to 6 years life or with Motordrive up to 8 years if you choose the re-certification service.
Don’t get caught out, check that your seats are in date!
